Andreas Pagoulatos was one of the nicest people I have ever met in my life. A poet with a distinct voice, a lover of cinema (and especially of the short film), about which he has penned a ton of brilliant texts, and the heart and soul of the well known Documentary Film Festival "Cinema and Reality", which, between 1989 and 2010, introduced all the major artists in the history of the world documentary and all the Greek documentarians to the Athenian audience.
Andreas was a true renaissance man, extremely learned, the kindest person I can think of and at the same time a great friend.
In 2008 and 2009 I began filming him during the preparations for the two Festivals "Cinema and Reality" respectively, in order to make a “Paraskinio” episode about him and his contribution to the documentary world.
For various reasons that episode of “Paraskinio” never came to be.
When Andreas suddenly passed away, in March 2010, after the initial strong shock, I thought that the footage of him, I had thus far, was not enough for a full documentary, as I originally
had planned, counting on more shooting sessions over a long period of time, but it would suffice for a short documentary on Andreas.
I made this 15-minute film in order to commemorate the first year after his passing, which screened at the only tribute paid to him after his death, in March 2011 and it stirred general emotion.
