In the final years of his life, Tassos Zografos and I had the chance to develop a strong emotional connection. I had filmed Tassos for the first time in 2005, for the needs of a TV profile of him for ERT.
That was when our friendship began. Later on, I asked him to be one of the key characters in a film I was working on about Makronisos. I will never forget his bravery revealing on camera that he had signed a statement of remorse. Many had been forced to do so but only few admitted it publicly.
Tassos died unexpectedly in March 2011. A year later, the Municipal Art Gallery in Athens set up an exhibition of his work. His wife, Efi, and his daughter, Anna Zografou, whom I met after his death and later worked brilliantly as a production manager in "Joy", asked me to make a film befitting the exhibition.
Using footage from “Makronisos” as well as from the films Zografos had worked for as set designer and an interview I did with Kostas Georgousopoulos, we put together a beautiful film, cut by Dora Masklavanou, about a man I will never forget as long as I live.
