In the late 2006, in November, Jose Saramago arrived at Patras, which was the European capital of culture that year, escorting his much younger spouse to a performance of a fairytale, that was part of the artistic program.
Adaios and Mikela conducted the (very fruitful) discussion with Saramago, which was held in the loft of a quaint cafe in Patras. Saramago was an extremely reticent man. I found his almost uncanny silence very intriguing and wanted to highlight it as creatively as I could.
The most interesting part in that picture turned out to be our joint visit to Ancient Olympia.
There, my partner Claudio Bolivar shot some wonderful silent moments of the author against the lush landscape embracing the ancient sanctuary. It was winter. In a few months, the devastating summer fires of 2007 were going to reach Ancient Olympia.
But, at that time, everything was still magical. And Saramago proved to be extremely eloquent in his silence.
