The one with the most exuberant personality was Andreas Bellis.
Bellis studied cinema in France. He worked as third assistant director to Alain Resnais in “La guerre est finnie” (aka “The war is over”), in 1966, and then he moved to Sweden, where he got married and made a name for himself in Swedish cinema.
After his divorce, he returned to Greece, in the late 70s, he got married again and worked as the cinematographer in some iconic pictures, namely Giorgos Panousopoulos’ “To taxeidi tou melitos” (Honeymoon), in Nikos Panayotopoulos’ “Oi tembelides tis efioris koiladas” (“The slothful ones of the fertile valley”), in Hristoforos Hristofis’ “Periplanisi” and numerous others.
His accounts in the film were superb. A man with a wonderful sense of humor and completely at ease, gave an amazing lesson in cinema.
His stories about his interaction with Resnais or the first time he met Bergman, as well as his reference to his friendship with Nykvist are unforgettable.
And next to those, his gives a very engaging description and analysis of his work and the secrets of photography.
