Quite a history. Some great partnerships, primarily with Theo Angelopoulos, but also with Pantelis Voulgaris, Tonia Marketaki, Stavros Tsiolis and many more.
Yet another one who started out working for Finos. After 1989 he moved to France
and shot some wonderful films.
Despite his initial inhibition in front of the camera, at some point he relaxed and he talked very well.
Giorgos Argyroiliopoulos was in charge of the camera; Fotos Lambrinos, Giorgos Karypidis, Pantelis Voulgaris and, of course, Theo Angelopoulos talked about Arvanitis.
I will never forget the day we shot the Angelopoulos’ interview, at his office, on Solomou street in Exarhia.
That interview was filmed by cameraman Petros Noussias.
Angelopoulos was superb and to the point; it was not just puffery for his partner.
I remember the Golden Palm, he had won for “Eternity and a day”, prominently displayed.
I asked his permission to merely touch it, without taking it in my hands.
He smiled graciously and said “...of course...be my guest...”
