This work for “Paraskinio” on Kavvadias was one of the very few I made on commission. The idea wasn’t mine but belonged to Giorgos Zevelakis, distinguished researcher of prose and poetry and also an obsessive collector of archives.
A longtime friend of Lakis Papastathis, Zevelakis had enhanced many literature themed documentaries for “Paraskinio” in the past.
The film on Kavvadias was packed with emotion, but a fairly conventional, educational, quality documentary for anyone who sought information on the life and work of the poet.
The participants were all great, as was the contribution of Giorgos Zevelakis, a man I consider myself honored to have met, worked with and become friends.
Several years later, however, I came across, an older “Paraskinio” documentary on Kavvadias, made by Stavros Tornes in 1982, with nothing but footage of the filmmaker himself, on a ship, reciting Kavvadias’ poems. I realized that my documentary was good but obviously inferior.
