This episode was also a commission. It is about an author I have great respect for, mostly about his political thinking, his open mind and his essays.
The man, who in his “Free Spirit” summarized the ethos of the 30s Generation; the man who throughout the hardship of the 20th century (in Greece, in particular) was moderate and passionate at the same time.
I will never forget the amazing Lily Alivizatou, the author’s sister, a woman with the strong personality and the aura of old Athens. She helped us a lot and provided us with rare super-8 home movies.
On the whole, it was a conventional picture, but it is the only attempt of a TV approach on Theotokas and succeeded sufficiently in conveying his emotional and intellectual universe, as well as his relationships with the two women of his life.
This picture closes the first chapter of my collaboration with “Paraskinio”; I had to stop in order to dedicate myself to the preparation of my first feature film, "Alemaya".
Looking upon those eight documentaries from a distance, I would say that they served as some sort of training for me and gave me time to mature.
When I returned to Cinetic, 2,5 years later, I was ready to give my very best.
