I had been hearing of Kostas Paskalis for years, since he was one of the finest operatic singers in the world, a really big name in the 50s, 60s and 70s.
My friend, the well-known poet, Sotiris Kakisis and a close friend of Paskalis brought us together.
He no longer performed and had moved back to Greece, where he taught in a music school passing on his great expertise.
He was a very kind man, not in the least a diva, and the documentary on him for “Paraskinio” is his only all-round profile made in Greece.
It is a picture I will never forget, because on Friday, 9 February, two hours after our last filming, Kostas Paskalis died suddenly of an aneurism.
I remember that ERT, not having anything of Paskalis' on video, asked to use some of our raw footage for a report about his death in the evening news.
